Welcome to San Juan Islander

We -- Sharon Kivisto and Matt Pranger -- created this site in December 1999 to provide local daily news coverage of the San Juan Islands. Our goal is to be a source of information for locals and visitors.

It has become a daily habit for thousands of people. The site is read by more than 4,800 people per day. We've had visitors from every continent.

Rachel Richard, Sharon's oldest daughter, designed the site and has provided hours of free technical assistance. Her patience with our questions is greatly appreciated.

Our goal is to continue to provide accurate, timely news coverage of stories islanders will find useful. In order to keep the roof over our head until we become media moguls, Matt works full-time for the Town of Friday Harbor.
