New management at Star Storage

PRESS RELEASE: Star Storage and Commercial Park announces its Grand Opening under new ownership by hosting the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce Summer Picnic fromt 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2003.

Star Storage and Commercial Park was purchased by Archipelago Properties LLC just 4 months ago in April 2003. There are 38 commercial units rented for workshops, studios and offices. There are 68 heated and eight unheated storage units ranging in size from 6 x 8 to 12 x 24. In addition to inside heated storage there is a secure, fenced area of outside parking for boats, trailers, autos and RVs. Archipelago Properties LLC is owned and operated by Lynn Danaher a 10 year resident of Friday Harbor. Lynn was the founder and former owner of San Juan Excursions, so she is both a veteran of the whale watch industry and small business endeavors in Friday Harbor

Since being purchased extensive renovation and upgrades have been completed. A park like greenbelt has been added where old junked vehicles used to sit. The concrete tile roofs have been completely renewed and repaired so should be good for another 30 years.

Star Storage and Commercial Park is one of only two heated storage facilities on San Juan Island. To further enhance energy efficiency the single pane aluminum windows have been replaced with new vinyl thermopane windows and each metal garage door is receiving a layer of insulation, plus weather stripping to cut down on heated loss. The heating system is being upgraded to include both a heat pump system and new more efficient electrical heaters.

The future plans of Star Storage and Commercial Park include running city sewer and water to each of the commercial park units so they can be marketed eventually as separate commercial condo units. Improvement to the adjacent vacant land includes plans for offices and professional spaces with broadband installation, and additional storage.

Currently the tenants in the commercial park are a mix of artists, a machine shop, auto, moped and boat repair, woodshop, beauty salon, contractors and storage. There is plenty of parking and with the current upgrades it is a lovely space for business. Only one 576 sq. foot commercial unit is still available in the commercial park. In the storage area there are only, two heated units, four unheated units and 10 parking spaces still available. The resident on site manager is Ryan Bennett also a 10 year resident of Friday Harbor. Star Storage and Commercial Park is located three blocks from downtown Friday Harbor at 50 Malcolm Street.
