REDUCE PAIN AND INFLAMMATION NATURALLY

posted 08/12/2008
Pain and inflammation are common complaints. Inflammation has been shown to be a major player in heart disease. In fact, a study broadcast on January 6, 2005 on CBS news said that inflammation may be a bigger cause of heart disease than cholesterol. Inflammation is also being linked to Alzhiemer’s disease.

Right now Celebrex is the number one prescribed drug in this country and it’s cousin Vioxx has been taken off the market due to deadly side affects including heart attacks and stokes.. Probably every one reading this has some sort of over the counter pain reliever in your medicine cabinet right now: advil, tylenol, aleve, aspirin etc. While the occasional use of these may be ok, daily use can be extremely dangerous.

While ibuprofen (advil)reduces some of the symptoms, it also blocks healthy production of other substances which protect the gut lining and actually destroys cartilage in the long run, so actually defeating its own purpose. Long term daily use (5 years) has been associated with a 51% increase in breast cancer.

Acetaminophen (tylenol) is a drug that relieves pain but not inflammation, and has its disadvantages such as depleting essential stores of glutathione in the body. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant, immune nutrient and detoxifier.

Aspirin as most people know has been shown to wreak havoc with the stomach and can be a factor in causing ulcers. It has also been shown to increase certain types of breast cancer by 81%. The bottom line is that drugs relieve symptoms at the precious cost of side effects and in the case of ibuprofen, worsening joint issues in the long run.

So what can we do that won’t cause side effects? Several things actually. Omega 3 fish oils have been shown to reduce inflammation. Omega 3 fish oils have also been shown to reduce pain, swelling, kidney function, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and the list goes on and on.

Herbs and nutrients such as ginger, turmeric, milk thistle, silybin, boswellia serrata, quercetin and lipoic acid have also been shown to help reduce inflammation as well.

Detoxification also helps. You can take epsom salt and ginger baths at home. We recommend ionic cellular cleanse footbaths at our clinic. Exercise where you actually sweat will also help. Reduce refined foods in your diet might actually be the biggest help of all.

So, there are many ways to help reduce inflammation and pain without the side effects of drugs.

If you are looking for answers, talk to one of your local chiropractors or naturopaths. They all have ways to help relieve your pain and inflammation naturally.

Yours in Health,
Mark W. Earnhart, D.C.
