Bow Wow Wonderful

posted 01/17/2009
Pets enhance our lives. They bring companionship, relieve stress, and bring joy and friendship between us all. We are blessed with several compassionate and skilled veterinarians here on the island along with some terrific pet resources for feeding, grooming, housing, and exercising them. The Animal Shelter has allowed many people to find a wonderful new companion; their work is to be commended. It's clear, that we love our pets here on San Juan Island. But, just like people, our pets can sometimes use first aid. While many of the same principles of human first aid apply to pets, there are many differences.
Along with some great human first aid instruction, we now also have a qualified Pet First Aid Instructor here on the Island, EMT Patricia Benton. She offers a full day certification course for pet owners which include animal CPR and strategies for handling sick and injured pets. While first aid is never a substitute for skilled veterinary care, it may lessen the injury and alert you to when you need to take your animal in to see the vet. If you're interested in Pet First Aid, contact EMT Patricia Benton at petfirstaid@sanjuanems.org or call her at 360.378-6360.
