Celebrate Summer!

It's summer time and we're beginning our next round of our adult Live and Learn programming here at the library. In the summer we usually go a little light on our adult programming as we know everyone is out enjoying the sun and all that our amazing island has to offer. But we couldn't resist sneaking in a few fun events. Adrienne, our programmer, has kept the theme simple – Celebrate Summer!

Our first event with Iditarod Racer Laura Daugereau on Saturday June 7th may not sound too summer-ish, but who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and we'll have so many hot, sunny days that a talk about snow and dog mushing will feel like a relief. Either way I know after living in Alaska, I'm completely intrigued by what it takes to even attempt to do that race. I actually have a secret desire to do some part of that trail if not by dog sled, at least by bike or foot. Maybe this event will be the start of the something…

After that we will have some of our favorite programs to get us through the summer including Poetry and Spoken Word, Literary Evening, Literary Salon, and Knitting classes. We will also make our traditional appearances at the Farmer's Market, 4th of July Parade, and of course the Fair. Oh yeah, and the, as we say, "elephant in the room": our Summer Reading Program for kids, teens, and adults! But more about that soon.
