Singing a Dream

posted 06/29/2009
Author Richard Ianelli was not thinking of a San Juan Island singer/songwriter when he said, "Spontaneity is the quality of being able to do something just because you feel like it at the moment, of trusting your instincts, of taking yourself by surprise and snatching from the clutches of your well-organized routine, a bit of unscheduled plea." However, well-known local musician Devorah is surely the personification of his idea.

For decades Devorah tried to categorize her musical genre according to the standards of the music industry. But when Devorah began having a series of epiphanies about spontaneously opening to the Circle of Community and its power to provide a harmonic unfolding of her career, magic began to happen everywhere. Devorah credits embracing her spontaneity for leading her to have enough faith to launch her tour... one woman, one bicycle, supported by her community along her journey.

With little more than a bike and a Blackberry, Devorah will be leaving San Juan Island next week to bring her first CD "Irrepressible Devorah" to the attention of music industry contacts along the coast from Seattle to Los Angeles.

Along the way, she plans to chronicle her jouney through interviewing and filming the people she meets as she asks them to share their fondest dreams with her. And maybe make some spontaneous music on the spot.

The community can follow along with Devorah's adventures by forwarding her Web Site www.devorahmusic.com to friends and email lists. Once on her site, you can follow her on Twitter, download her music, sign up for a newsletter and learn more about Devorah.

Devorah hopes that the result of her spontaneity will allow her to return to the circle of her community with an abundance of love and resources to share.
