Book "Donation Madness Day" on April 30posted 04/26/05
Volunteers will be available to help you carry the items into the library, so bring everything you've saved. Children's books especially are needed. The donated books and media will later be offered for sale to the community through seasonal book sales and The Friends' new retail outlet, the Treasure Cove. Proceeds raised are used to support special projects and programs for the library throughout the year. After this event, several changes will go into effect regarding donations. Because of regulatory restrictions on the library staff, the staff members will no longer be able to accept donations at all times during library hours. Consequently, used or new books and media can be brought to the Treasure Cove, located just inside the library entrance, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Also, the policy on acceptable donated items has changed slightly. Currently, adult and children's: books, compact discs, videos, audio cassettes, and cassette tapes can be accepted, with the following exceptions:
The Friends of the San Juan Island Library is an association of over 300 members interested in the community library. Its mission is to focus public attention on the library and to support the library in developing library services and facilities for the community. The Friends of the San Juan Island LibraryThe Friends of the San Juan Island Library is a nonprofit 501 (c) organization founded over 25 years ago to help the library in many ways by providing financial support for programming, collection purchases and special projects that are not covered by tax dollars. The Executive Board of the Friends of the San Juan Island Library meet at 8:00 a.m. the last Monday of each month at the San Juan Island Library to conduct the business at hand. We need volunteers willing to work in our book room sorting materials for our book sales. We also need volunteers willing to work in our new store, the "Treasure Cove" once the Library is remodeled in early 2005. Help is also needed on various fundraising projects we undertake each year. Please contact Kathy Babbitt, President, Friends of the San Juan Island Library at 378-2798 or at kbabbitt@sjlib.org or Eve Burton, Vice President and Chairperson of the Treasure Cove store at even@rockisland.com if you are interested in our store once it's opened. Either of us would be happy to speak with you. |
