MEMORIES OF JOHN VOLK

A message from John Volk's family

Remembering John Volk

Dear Editor,

John Volk was a good park neighbor and a very nice man. It was only last Saturday (December 9) that he and Lainey attended our Holiday Social with their grandchildren and had a grand time. I especially enjoyed the attached photo of John and our long-time volunteer Jim Meredith savoring the moment, God bless us all...

Very best,
Mike Vouri

The aviation and Island communities have suffered an enormous and profound loss in the untimely death of John Volk on December 11, 2006. His loss leaves a shocking and gaping hole in our community. An accomplished pilot and boater, a dedicated family man, John was good at anything he took on. He was a doer and activist, quietly pursuing varied kinds of community service. His expertise and leadership skills cut a wide swath across our community's life, including the leadership of the San Juan Pilots Association, the Roy Franklin Museum, flying cancer patients with the Eagles, active work with Emergency Medical Services, and many other civic needs. His quiet competence always put the needs and interests of others before his own. John's integrity, positive outlook, and dedication to community service have, and will continue to inspire all of us. He flew West much earlier than he deserved, but his spirit wll be with us always.

May you soar high, John, our friend and fellow pilot. Our condolences to Lainey and his family in this time of grieving which involves all of us who had the privilege to know John.
