Unexpected twist in SJ Public Hospital District board seat

Who will be the fifth commissioner on the San Juan County Public Hospital District #1 Board? That's up in the air after Peg LeBlanc was elected to the San Juan County Public Hospital District #1 Board in the November 2, 2017 General Election after she had withdrawn her name. The withdrawal was too late to remove her name from the ballot.

There was another board position on the ballot. Anna Lisa Lindstrom and John Manning ran against each other and Lindstrom was elected.

Many people assumed, the commission would likely select Manning to fill the other seat. However, it turns out the situation is a bit more complicated.

At this point, LeBlanc has until 12 midnight January 1 to be sworn in. If she decides not to, J Michael Edwards, who held the position but declined to run for re-election, will continue as commissioner.

If he decides he doesn't want to, he could resign. That would open up a vacancy, that the Hospital Board would then set up a procedure to consider applicants.
