I would suggest you spend some time on San Juan Island beteeen November and March. In fact come several times during that time period. The climate is not the same in winter as summer. Also, if you have any special needs, medical, mobility or even social- remember it’s a small place and you may need to plan for “off island” time to obtain needed services. It’s costly and due to ferry capacity difficult to go to the mainland frequently so you need to plan for that well in advance. Many people find alternate living during the dark wet winters- which may be a viable option to offset the challenges.

Thank you for the inviting video. My wife and I are on the fence about moving to San Juan Island. We are working class folk. We are interested in land mainly to build on but the right home could sway our thoughts. We want to spend more time exploring the island to gain a better sense of the reality and see how it compares to our fantasy. Suggestions? Thanks, Randy Gilliland
