March 14: Student walkout planned in Friday Harbor and Eastsound

Students in the San Juan Islands plan to participate in the national silent demonstration in honor of the 17 students who were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Valentine's Day. The 17-minute walkouts will take place on Wednesday, March 14.

Orcas Island High School students will walk out at 10 a.m.

Spring Street International School, Friday Harbor High School and Middle School students will walk out of school at 10:30 a.m. and gather on the high school track.

Ayla Ridwan and Emma Mughal are the high school coordinators for both these demonstrations. They ask everyone to wear orange. While the public is encouraged to support the students and their message, they will not be allowed on school grounds. Rather, they may gather on the sidewalks and outside the fence line by the track.

On March 24, 2018 the students will participate in the national “March for Our Lives.”

As a pediatrician, a father, a grandfather, and just a human being, I support all the children nationwide who are owning what so many alleged "adults" are unwilling or unable accept.
