Hiker and dog rescued from cliff in Moran State Park

A hiker and her severely injured dog were rescued from a cliff in Moran State Park Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Due to the extreme remoteness of the location and the difficulty in reaching the pair, it took the Technical Rescue Team from Orcas Island Fire Rescue nine hours to complete the successful operation.

The team built a litter from branches and carried Bowzer, who was unable to move,   1.5 miles to the trailhead at Mountain Lake. The dog received IV fluids on the trailhead and en route to Orcas Veterinary. He was further stabilized by Dr. Dhaliwal at her office.

Bowser's  owner, the subject of the day's high angle rescue, was reunited with her mother and husband. They are taking their beloved pet back to a Veterinary specialist in Seattle.
