Today in Washington’s 2018 State of State address, Governor Jay Inslee laid out his landmark proposal to make Washington a leader on tackling climate pollution. His plan would hold major state polluters accountable for their emissions and help transition Washington off dirty energy by investing those revenues in local clean energy solutions.
Governor Inslee’s climate proposal
“We are excited to stand with Governor Inslee and legislative leaders to put a price on climate pollution and invest in solutions for all Washingtonians. With the lack of leadership at the federal level, it’s up to Washington to address climate pollution and to protect the health of our communities, especially those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
In 2017, we endured climate disasters in wildfires, water shortages, and ocean acidification. This year, we have an opportunity to make progress towards a cleaner future for our state. This work is a priority for us. We are optimistic that Governor Inslee’s leadership and commitment combined with a legislature focused on solutions, can make this an important year for climate action.”
