June 5: Know Your Islanders Talk: Photographer Laurie O'Donnell

At the next Know Your Islanders Talk  - at 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at San Juan Island Library -  the speaker is photographer Laurie O'Donnell lived in South Africa for nearly four years and spent a year of that time living on a game reserve. A wide array of birds and wildlife also lived on the property and Laurie was able to observe and photograph them: numerous insects and colorful birds, elephant, a small herd of waterbuck, a pair of slender mongoose, and a female leopard.

Laurie will talk about all of those creatures as well as her close call with a spitting cobra, adopting an abandoned baby squirrel, and the time she learned that frogs can scream. Refreshments are courtesy of the Friends of the Library and the San Juan Island Trails Committee.
