Director Carol Hooper, musical director Jim Collado, and a cast of more than 50 islanders tell the magical story of a selfish prince who is transformed into an unsightly creature and his servants turned into household objects in San Juan Community Theatre's production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The Beast must earn the love of a beautiful young woman before it is too late for him and his castle.
Performances run May 11 - 27 with a special Opening Night benefit.
The music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, book by Linda Woolverton. Choreography for SJCT's production is by Lisa Duke.
Hooper believes the musical has much to teach and says it is “not just a fluffy princess story.” Each single character, she says, has something we can identify with and think about.
