2.8 Earthquake at 9:35 p.m. Thursday

Islanders on the north end of San Juan Island felt a jolt last night when a 2.8 earthquake 7.7 miles NNW of Friday Harbor struck. "There was a single, sudden jolt of the whole house and something in the kitchen rattled loudly," wrote one San Juan Island woman.

A 2.36 aftershock occurred at 7 miles NNW of Friday Harbor.

Northwest Leaders testify in Congress about Coal Exports

PRESS RELEASE: Washington, D.C. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Climate Solutions Policy Director and Power Past Coal representative KC Golden testified at a congressional hearing on the environmental, health and economic impacts from coal exports. The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Energy and Power held the hearing on U.S. Energy Abundance: Regulatory, Market, and Legal Barriers to Export.
