Dickerson: Kudos to Washington Congressional Delegation

Dear Editor,

Great to hear U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Patty Murray (D-WA), joined by Reps. Adam Smith (WA-09), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rick Larsen (WA-02), Derek Kilmer (WA-06), Denny Heck (WA-10), and Suzan DelBene (WA-01) working together to protect our area’s fishing industry. (‘Agencies must also immediately halt permitting of new and expanding net pens’ in the San Juan Islander, August 30, 2017)

The Washington State Congressional delegation is working hard for us, including some recent bipartisan work in the House and the Senate. Senator Murray’s bipartisan work, often unreported, has been responsible in the past for Congress being able to pass a budget.

Currently, Rep. Dave Reichert (WA-08) introduced House Resolution 466 to support the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). This resolution was cosponsored by Reps. Larsen, Heck, DelBene, and Herrera Beutler (WA-03). The GPE works to give children in our world a chance to receive an education.

Remember, education brings better health, higher incomes, lower birth rates, and less conflict. With over 250 million children and youth in our world not in school, there is plenty of work to be done.

Thanks to our delegation for acting to make a difference!

Willie Dickerson
