Friday Harbor boys basketball team rolled past Crosspoint 74-36 in an elimination contest Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017. With the win over the Warriors (14-7), the Wolverines (12-9) continue in the double-elimination Class 2B District 1/2 Tournament. They travel to Orcas Island (13-2) for a game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.

Seattle Lutheran knocks Friday Harbor boys from playoffs - Feb. 18, 2017

Seattle Lutheran knocked Friday harbor boys basketball team from the Class 2B playoffs with a 64-42 victory Saturday, Feb.18, 2017 at Sedro-Woolley High School. The Saints, who drilled 10 three-pointers to the Wolverines' two, finish second in the District 1/2 Tournament and advance to the state tournament.

Orcas Island boys basketball team advanced to the Class 2B District 1/2 Championship by trimming Friday Harbor 54-47 in a semifinal Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.

Dead Man's Cell Phone at SJCT - Photos added

San Juan Community Theatre's winter play, onstage from February 17-March 4, features a wildly imaginative contemporary comedy-drama. Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone opens in a quiet café, with an incessantly ringing cell phone, a stranger at the next table who has had enough, and a dead man – with a lot of loose ends. As the play unfolds, we witness the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a technologically-obsessed world.

1500 women, men, children march in Friday Harbor

The signs -  Build Bridges Not Walls, Every Species Matters, Smash the Patriarchy, Strong Girls Strong World, Orcas Not Oil and many more -   reflected the variety of concerns that drove an estimated 1,500 women, men and children to walk in the Women's March in Friday Harbor. Approximately 200 people from Shaw, Lopez and Orcas Islands  arrived on the interisland ferry to join the event. Marchers of all ages joined together in peaceful protest. The election of Donald Trump has unnerved and frightened millions on U.S. citizens and people from other nations.  According to the Washington Post millions worldwide participated in marches including Seattle, Washington, D.C., Barcelona and Prague.

Jan. 19-22: Wizard of Oz at SJCT - Slideshow added

Take the original story and music from the original motion picture, add a little steampunk to the costumes, a little modern technology to the set and some 60 local youth, and you have The Wizard of Oz, island- and SJCT-style. FHHS and FHMS Players present The Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum, adapted by John Kane directed by Jenni Merritt. A 75-year-old classic returns to the Whittier stage for the first time in 25 years. And it will have us all humming favorites like Over the Rainbow, Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead and If I Only had a Brain/Heart/Nerve.

Santa and the Lighted Boat parade bring joy to Town

Islanders stood at Spring Street Landing, on shore or on board the Pintail to view the annual Lighted Boat parade at Friday Harbor on Saturday, December 17, 2016.  One special passenger disembarked at Spring Street Landing. and  greeted excited children before going to Friday Harbor Middle School. At the school, Santa Claus listened to the children's wishes. and LEO Club members handed out toys, candy canes and fruit.
