1,000 eggs, dozens of kids, loads of fun at Jacksons Beach

About 1,000 eggs, dyed by volunteers the night before and strewn amid the driftwood at Jacksons Beach, awaited San Juan Island children Sunday afternoon. The San Juan Island firefighters hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, April 16, 2017. The Bunny was there to greet children and pose for countless photos. Volunteers distributed toys in exchange for plastic eggs which had been hidden among the hard-boiled dyed eggs.

In addition some of the participants won fire safety items.  Photos by Matt Pranger

A Canadian boy almost lost out on collecting his prize after accurately guessing there were 575 jellybeans in the jar. The winner had to be present. A family member found him and he came running up in time to collect the jar with the jellybeans and a $100 bill inside. Brent Snow, emcee and Executive Director of Roche Harbor Resort, quipped the $100 was worth $300 in Canadian dollars.
