OBITUARY Edward E. BlackEdward "Eddie" Black, 93, of Friday Harbor, WA died on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Islands Convalescent Center, with his extended family at his side. He was born on October 11, 1914 in Anaconda, Montana and was raised on the family farm. Eddie entered the U.S. Army on February 3, 1941 and was stationed in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Eddie served his country with distinction during WWII and was honorably discharged on August 24, 1945. Following his service to his country, he was employed as a smelter in the steel industry. Eddie met and later married Margaret Hart. The couple moved to Friday Harbor to make their home and in 1996, Eddie and Margaret made their permanent residence at Islands Convalescent Center. Eddie was a delightful gentleman who was very close to the staff and volunteers at Islands Convalescent. He loved participating in the activities at the Center, especially the music, and never missed the chance to sing. He was a wonderful singer and knew the words to absolutely every old folk song and all the hymns. Eddie will truly be missed for his jokes, singing, and his cheerful nature. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2000 and is survived by his "family" at Islands Convalescent Center. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. in Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
