Richard "Dick" Hamilton Chaney

April 26, 1924 - May 14, 2009

Richard "Dick" Hamilton Chaney, 85, of Anacortes, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was born on April 26, 1924 in Fremont, Nebraska, the son of Archibald and Gladys (Payne) Chaney.

Dick served in WWII on the USS Howorthin the Pacific as a Navy gunner and also in the Korean Conflict as a Navy Seal. He was a member of the Kamikaze survivors.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Chaney on April 19, 2009.

He is survived by his daughters, Catherine F. Moore, Cheryl A. Gallegos, Rhonda L. Foster; nieces, Colleen Chaney, Carol Chaney, Kathy Weaver, and Cheryl Chaney, all from Denver, CO; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, with military honors.

Dick's remains will be buried at sea on his Navy ship, the USS Howorth, and his grave marker will be placed at Olga Doe Bay Cemetery, next to his wife, Catherine.
