OBITUARY

Thomas Alexander Frazier

August 23, 1919 to May 17, 2008

Thomas A. Frazier, 88, a 35-year resident of Lopez Island, died from complications of pneumonia and cancer on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA. Tom, the oldest of four children, was born on August 23, 1919 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of Charles and Cecil (Conover) Frazier. Tom served with the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II, flying the "hump".

Upon returning stateside, he flew for the 7th Ferrying Command in Great Falls, Montana. Following the war, Tom settled in Denver, CO and began his career as a commercial pilot for Continental Airlines. In his lifetime, he logged nearly 35,000 hours in aircraft ranging from the J3 Cub to DC10s.

Over the years Tom flew to the Northwest many times and moved to Lopez Island in 1973 to retire. He became known as the guy who could fix most anything or make parts that were no longer available. Tom was also a model railroad enthusiast with a layout well known.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, formerly of Lopez Island, Laura Frazier and his brother, Robert of Wheeling, WV. Tom is survived by his wife, Ellie of Lopez; daughter, Bobi Frazier McConnell of Castle Rock, CO; sons, Michael T. Frazier of Franktown, CO, Thomas A. Frazier of Houston, TX; six grandchildren; and sisters, Harritt Frazier of Kansas City, MO and Frances Emley of San Francisco, CA.

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lopez Animal Protection Society. (L.A.P.S.).
