Eckersley finishes season with strong effort

Toni Eckersley, an exchange student from New Zealand, completed the season at the Quad-Disctict Championships last week at the Unviersity of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center with a strong performance.

After losing her first-round match, Eckersley made Krystal Barohelame of Overlake earn advancement in the tourney. Barohelame won the first set 7-5 but Eckersley took the second set 6-3. The Owl slipped by the Wolverine 6-4 in the deciding set.

Laura Harris of Forest Ridge defeated Eckersley 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round.


Eckersley advances to Quad-District Tennis Tournament

Toni Eckersley finished second in the Northwest A/B League Tennis Tournament Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Friday Harbor High School. The Friday Harbor junior advances to the Quad-District Tournament next week.

Eckersley, Friday Harbor’s No. 1 singles player, had a first-round bye and edged Taniel Lamb, Coupeville’s No. 2, in the second round. In the championship match, Eckersley withdrew because of a sore shoulder.

The Wolverines Callie Bolstad and Alina Vongasmart trimmed Hayley Bolstad and Shane Elban for third-place in the doubles action.

Singles players shine in win over Blaine

Toni Eckersley, Brynn Woldvedt and Amanda Pope dominated their Blaine opponents as Friday Harbor’s girls tennis team trimmed the Borderites 3-2 April 30.

Eckersley upended Rochelle Jackson 8-1 in No. 1 sinlges play. Woldvedt topped Sydney Stanley 8-1 in No. 2 action and Pope beat Beth Black 8-1 No. 3 play.

In No. 1 doubles action, Blaine’s Linsay Taylor and Jess Freeman edged Callie Bolstad and Alina Vongsamart 5-8. Krista Jones and Jen Kramer defeated Friday Harbor’s Hayley Bolstad and Leilani Salsbury 8-6

Friday Harbor’s girls tennis squad toppled Darrington 4-1 April 28.

Toni Eckersly, the Wolverines No. singles player, beat Kelsie Padgett 6-4, 6-2. Brynn Woldvedt battled tough in No. 2 action but lost to the Loggers Shauna Kuper 6-1, 2-6 (4-7). Friday Harbor’s Amanda Pope won a pro set against Tessa Harris 8-6.

Friday Harbor’s Alina Vongsamart and Callie Bolstad nearly blanked Jennifer Haldane and Miranda Brown 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles play. Shane Elban and Hayley Bolstad defeated Linda Phillips and Reily Wicken 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles action.

In an exhibition match, Katie Buganski and Brynn Woldvedt defeated their Darrinton foes 6-1.

Friday Harbor tennis team edges Stanwood

Friday Harbor girls tennis team trimmed Stanwood 3-2 Friday, April 4, 2003 in an all-doubles meet.

Wolverine doubles teams of Callie Bolstad-Toni Eckersley, Libby Concord-Amanda Pope and Lotte Karlsson won.

Eckersley wins thriller

Friday Harbor junior Toni Eckersley rallied against South Whidbey’s No. 1 in an extremely tight match Wednesday, April 2.

Eckersley trimmed Amy Vogt 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, (8-6).

The rest of the Wolverines dropped their matches.

Friday Harbor's girls tennis squad bounced the Stanwood junior varsity team 5-0 in non-league action Saturday, March 22.

Junior Toni Eckersley blanked Laura Freed 8-0 in No. 1 singles action in the Wolverines' home opener. In No. 2 play, senior Callie Bolstad blasted Krystal Younger 8-0. Junior Brynn Woldvedt topped Ashley Payne 8-0 in No. 3 action.

Senior Shane Elban and junior Leilani Salsbury defeated Baily Bridenbaugh and Jessica Andelin in No. 1 doubles action. Junior Amanda Pope and senior Libby Concord beat Renee Sanderfer and Melissa Johnson in No. 2 play.
