Trent Roberts scored three touchdowns and Cole Franklin threw a pair of touchdown passes as Friday Harbor opened the 2005 football season with a 36-0 pounding of Forks Friday, Sept. 2.

The host Wolverines scored on their first possession when Franklin tossed a 21-yard pass to Jesse Woodruff. Dwight Ware booted the extra-point.

Less than 20 seconds ticked off the clock before the Wolverines’ second touchdown. Forks fumbled on their 20-yard line and Roberts scooped up the ball and scooted into the end zone. Ware kicked the extra-point and Friday Harbor led 14-0.

Franklin threaded a 12-yard pass to Roberts for the Wolverines third touchdown. Ware converted his third PAT at 4:28 left in the first quarter.

On their fourth possession of the game, Franklin zipped the ball 30 yards to Jesse Woodruff. That pass reception helped set up an 34-yard field goal by Ware with 7:44 to go in the second quarter.

Roberts rambled 55 yards to score his third touchdown and the Wolverines led 30-0 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Loch Stimpson punched the ball into the end zone from the 4-yard line with nine minutes to go in the game.

Roberts accounted for man than one-third of Friday Harbor's 309 yards of offense. He gained 103 yards on five carries. Tyler Hart rushed for 85 yards on nine attempts and had a 27-yard kickoff return. Loch Stimpson had 31 yards on six carries.

Franklin completed nine passes for 66 yards. Woodruff caught two passes -- the 21-yarder for a touchdown grab and a 30-yarder.

Friday Harbor’s defense was as dominant as its offense. The Spartans, who lost their starting quarterback to a broken collar bone, rarely moved past midfield. Roberts, a cornerback, led the Wolverine defense with 10 tackles. He also caused a fumble and recovered a fumble. Linebacker Tyler Dixon had nine tackle and linebacker Stimpson had six. Linebacker Tim Cumming made six tackles and caused a fumble. Doug Poulda blocked a punt and had a sack.
