Wolverine football team wins with HARTposted 09/27/05
"We just played with a lot of H-A-R-T," said Friday Harbor coach Richard Ledford. "It was our first league game," Hart said. "I just wanted to come out and have a big game." The junior halfback took the ball on the second play from scrimmage and zipped 55 yards to end zone. He also scored on 26-yard and 28-yard runs, a 63-yard reception and a 58-yard punt return. He ran in a two-point conversion and would’ve thrown for another touchdown if not for a dropped ball. "Tyler’s got a lot of courage, talent and speed," Ledford said. Hart racked up more all-purpose yards -- 306 -- than many high school teams compile in a game. He rushed for 112 yards on six carries, returned three punts for for 68 yards, ran back a kickoff 63 yards and had a 63 yard pass reception. Cole Franklin completed seven passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. "I was really pleased with our quarterback play," Ledford said. Split end Jesse Woodruff scored on a 54-yard reception and also had grabs of 13 and 14 yards. He had 13- and 23-yard punt returns. David Ahrenius rushed for 45 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown carry. "David did a good job running the ball and also played well on defense," Ledford said. Trent Roberts gained 67 yards on the ground and Loch Stimpson had 49. Linebacker Tim Cumming led the team in tackles with 8. Roberts and Ahrenius made 7 tackles. Stimpson had 6 tackles and Chas Lawson had 5, including a sack. Friday Harbor’s safeties combined for three tackles. "That’s good when the safeties aren’t making many tackles," Ledford said. The Wolverines improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Northwest A/B League play. They are ranked second in Class A by Washingtonpreps.com. Friday Harbor plays at Coupevile at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. |
