Friday Harbor is not the only undefeated football team in the San Juans. The Lopez Lobo eight man football team (3-0) successfully kept their undefeated season alive by beating the Easton Wildcats 70-36 on Saturday October 8th at Lopez High School.

Lopez's Bubba Smith intercepted a pass on the Wildcat's first drive and 2 plays later, Jordan Smith (Bubba's Brother) scored Lopez's 1st touchdown. Lopez and Easton exchanged touchdowns until halfway into the second quarter when the Lobos pulled away for good.

Eight man football is usually punctuated by long travel miles, high scores, and big stats. Some stats from Saturday's game include:

Lopez total all purpose yards: 888 yards

#34 - Jon Elings - 11 carries for 215 yards; 3 receptions for 124 yards-totaling 424 all purpose yards that included 6 touchdowns.

#22 - Jordan Smith - 9 carries for 156 yards; 4 receptions for 125 yards-totaling 324 all purpose yards that included 4 touchdowns.

#4 - Bubba Smith - (quarterback) completed 8 for 11 passes for 231 yards and had 12 solo tackles and 4 assisted tackles.

This win comes on the heels of what Head Coach, Larry Berg, called "a total defensive battle" against Kahlotus, a double overtime contest in which Lopez prevailed 14-8.

Lopez's eight man football program is an exciting and unique addition to spectator sports in the San Juans with an emphasis on sportsmanship and having fun.
