Orcas Island stunned previously unbeaten Friday Harbor 1-0 in Northwest A/B League soccer action Saturday, Oct. 22 in Friday Harbor. The win was the first Viking victory over the Wolverines in nearly five seasons.

Senior Sidney Hayworth booted the match's only goal with about five minutes remaining in the first half. The Orcas defense held from there, lifting the Vikings to their first win over the Wolverines since Sept. 10, 2001.

"Their seniors had never beaten us," said Friday Harbor coach Ron Duke.

"I told our guys that if we lose a game this season I'd rather it be Orcas than anyone else," said Duke, noting the Vikings needed the victory for their playoff hunt.

Orcas improves to 6-3 in the Northwest A/B League Large School Division play. Orcas, 8-3 overall, trails second-place Mount Vernon Christian by one game. The Vikings finish conference play at the Hurricanes Tuesday, Oct. 25 and travel to Lopez Island for a match at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.

Friday Harbor leads the large schools with an 8-1 record. The Wolverines close league play in a home match against Coupeville (5-4) Tuesday, Oct. 25. Friday Harbor, 11-1-1 for the season, completes regular season action by hosting Seattle Christian at noon, Saturday, Oct. 29.
