Orcas Island High School quarterback Josh Mayson ran for two touchdowns, passed for another and returned an interception for one more as the Vikings rang up a 48-27 win over Liberty Bell Saturday, Sept. 18.

The Vikings boost their record to 3-0 with the non-league win.

Liberty Bell scored the first touchdown five and a half minutes into the game but the Vikings responded. Darren Stevens ran the ball in the end zone from 11 yards out. Miles Murphy kicked the PAT and the Vikings led 7-6 with a half-minute to go in the first quarter.

Josh Mayson scrambled 35 yards for the Vikings’ second touchdown. Extra-point attempt failed.

Mayson connected with Chris Troutman on a 50-yard touchdown pass play and the Vikngs led 19-6 with 5:24 left in the half.

Mayson picked off a Liberty Bell pass with no time on the clock and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown. Murphy booted the PAT and Orcas led 26-7.

A Viking fumble led to the Mountain Lions’ second touchdown. The conversion attempt failed and Granite Falls trailed 26-12.

A 30-yard screen pass from Mayson to Stevens set up the Vikings’ fifth touchdown. One minute into the fourth quarter, Mayson scrambled 18 yards into the end zone. Murphy booted the PAT and the Vikings led 33-12.

Liberty Bell scored a touchdown at 5:45 remaining in the game, but Stevens returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards for his second touchdown. The extra-point attempt failed and Orcas led 39-19.

Freshman Tyler Liedecker zipped 48 yards and then scored from one yard out for the Vikings’ final touchdown. Murphy ran the ball in for the 2-point conversion.

Liberty Bell added a touchdown and 2-point conversion late in the game.

The Vikings open Northwest A League play against Cedar Park Christian at Juanita High School at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
