Wolverine Homecoming Oct. 20posted 10/17/2006 John Hart, who sent in these photos of the Sands, B.C. game, said the Cougars appear to be a better team this year. "We need all the fans we can get on Friday night," he said. Wolverines sting Scorpions 41-13Story by Matt Pranger
Tyler Hart rushed for four touchdowns and returned an interception for a fourth as Friday Harbor thumped Sands Secondary School (Delta, British Columbia) 41-13 Saturday, Sept. 14. "They hit pretty well and were very gracious in defeat," Friday Harbor coach Richard Ledford said of the Scorpions. "I'm thrilled to see football going in Canada." Friday Harbor compiled about 429 yards total offense -- 321 on the ground and 108 through the air. The Wolverines did not punt in the cross-border contest. Hart gained 192 yards on 14 carries. Austin Scheffer compiled 86 yards on 14 attempts and scored two touchdowns for the Wolverines.
Cole Franklin completed six of eight passes. Trent Roberts caught three passes and Brock McNairy made two receptions. Friday Harbor's defense limited Sands to 26 yards rushing. "I was really proud of our ground defense, our ground game," Ledford said. Sands tallied 147 yards passing. Tyson Pencer, the Scorpions 6-foot-6, 227-pound tight end, recently committed to Washington State University. Friday Harbor hosts Cascade Christian (7-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. The Cougars are one of four undefeated Class 1A teams in the state and are ranked No. 7 -- one spot above the Wolverines. Friday Harbor eliminated Cascade Chrisrtian 36-26 in the state quartfinals last year. "I'm sure Cascade feels like they owe us and that they want to stay undefeated," Ledford said. "They have a good team and we have a good team... We'll give it our best shot," Ledford said. | |
