Friday Harbor High School's football surged to a 21-0 first-half lead and held off King's for a 21-14 victory Saturday, Sept. 8.

"We showed a lot of character in that game... stopping them when we needed to," said Friday Harbor senior Eric Nash who scored a touchdown in his first home high school football game.

Cody Price picked off a King's pass with 1:16 to go to seal the win for the Wolverines, who improve to 2-0.

A 30-yard pass from Michael Ausilio to Michael GrosJacques set Friday Harbor's first touchdown -- a 10-yard rumble by Austin Scheffer with 7:43 to go in the first quarter. Cody Price booted the PAT.

Louis Paul recovered a King's fumble and that led to Ausilio scoring on a 1-yard quarterback keeper with 35 seconds to go in the first period. Price kicked the extra point.

Nash scored on a 3-yard run and Price chipped in his third PAT with 8:36 to go in the first half.

King's cut the lead to 21-7 on a 6-yard pass with about two minutes remaining in the half.

Friday Harbor fumbled on the first play from scrimmage after the kickoff and the Knights recovered on the Wolverines 31-yard line. On the next play, GrosJacques hit King's quarterback as he released the ball and Miguel Medina intercepted. Friday Harbor coughed up the ball three downs later. Three downs later Jordyn Taylor snuffed the King's scoring threat by snagging a pass with 18 seconds to go.

Both teams' defenses held in the third quarter. King's cut the lead to 21-14 on a 2-yard touchdown run with 5:02 to go.
