Grief Support Group meets in Mullis Center lounge

The free grief support group sponsored by Hospice of San Juan now meets
weekly from 6:00-7:30 on Monday evenings. Meetings are held in the lounge
of the Mullis Community Senior Center.

The group is facilitated by hospice volunteers and is an open, but
confidential, support group for those living through the process of
grieving. It is not be a therapy group. Everyone responds to grief in a
unique way, yet many of our experiences and challenges are similar. These
meetings offer a safe place for those experiencing grief to share their
stories.

While most group participants are grieving the death of a family member, a
close friend, or a cherished pet, anyone who has experienced any type of
loss is welcome. For more information, leave a message with Hospice of San
Juan at 472-0322. A volunteer will respond promptly.

Auditions "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch" PARC building (70 Saltspring Road

Auditions for SJCT's Summerfest Play May 20 & 21

posted 05/08/2008
Want to be part of one rootin’-tootin’ romp of a fun farce that takes us back to the good ol’ days of the wild, wild west? (Think gunslingin’, saloon girls and a script that includes words like "lily-livered" and "yellow-bellied.")

Auditions for San Juan Community Theatre's Summerfest 2008 play: The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch by James L. Rosenberg will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20 and 21, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the PARC building (70 Saltspring Road off Beaverton Valley Road). Performances are scheduled for July 26 through August 6.

Sneaky Fitch is one wild character who shares the stage with many more wild and crazy characters with plenty of audience interaction to make for "action-from-the-get-go" family entertainment.

The play is directed by Jane Maxwell Campbell, a newcomer to the island and SJCT. She's directed "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch" three times during her previous theatrical career in California. "The show has always brought many laughs," said Jane. "There are roles for all ages starting at eight years old and up."

Ages vary depending on role: Women: 25-65 (and up). Men: 30-70 (and up). Children: 8 (and up). Roles available:

    * TWO NARRATORS: Interact with audience and within the show.

    * RACKHAM: The fastest gun in the West.

    * MERVYN VALE: Gopher Gulch’s morbid undertaker.

    * MRS. VALE: She is similar to her husband in demeanor and his pale/drawn look.

    * MAROON: A likable and voluptuous woman who is the “queen of the saloon” girls.

    * SHERIFF JACK OGLESBY: Meek and likable.

    * DOC BURCH: Strong, humorous, confident, cunning and manipulative.

    * REVEREND STANLEY BLACKWOOD: The “over the top” town preacher (and sometimes the town banker).

    * MRS. BLACKWOOD: Similar to Mrs. Vale; a gossip, overbearing and a snob.

    * SNEAKY FITCH: This is a fantastic role for a committed actor who must literally carry the show that is his namesake.

    * JOE CARTER, BILL JACKSON & BOB WILSON: These are repetitive and physically comedic roles.

    * SALOON GIRLS: The Lovely Ladies of the Red Dog Saloon.

    * TOWNSPEOPLE: A variety of country and town folk, including children at least 8 years old.

    * THE MUSICIANS: A small ensemble of musicians that play off the actions of the actors and the show.

Perusal scripts are available at the Box Office with a $10 deposit. The Box Office is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and one hour before each performance.
