To the Editor

This October, San Juan County voters will have a chance to hear directly from the candidates running for two important local offices: County Auditor and County Council District 3.

The San Juan County Auditor oversees county elections, financial reporting, budgeting, and licensing — work that touches nearly every resident, whether or not we notice it day to day. This year’s race features incumbent Natasha Warmenhoven and challenger Heather Lee, both with direct experience in the Auditor’s Office.

The County Council District 3  seat carries its own weight, shaping decisions on land use, county budgets, and policy that affects island life for years to come. All residents of the county vote for this position not just those who live in District 3.  We’re inviting the community to join us for candidate forums where you can hear from Jennifer Swanson and Katherine Bryant-Ingman in their own words and ask the questions that matter most to you:

All forums begin at 5:30 p.m.:

• Monday, October 12 — Grace Episcopal Church, Lopez Island
• Tuesday, October 13 — The Mullis Senior Center, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island
• Wednesday, October 14 — Orcas Senior Center, Orcas Island

These races are nonpartisan, and the forums are designed to give every candidate a fair and equal chance to share their vision. We’d love to see a full house — an informed electorate is one of the best things we can offer our community.

Hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

League of Women Voters of the San Juans
