Election results: County Levy Lift doesn’t pass

Two levies were on the April 28, 2026 ballot. One was a county-wide ballot measure asking for a 57 percent increase in the property tax levy. This would increase the levy from 54 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value to 85 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value. If passed it would increase property tax collected in 2027 by $4.5 million.

The other levy ballot measure was the Lopez Island Park and Rec Levy which if approved would provide funding for the Lopez Rec Program.

The results were:

San Juan County Property tax levy lid lift:

  • yes. 39.35 %
  • no 60.65 %

Lopez Park and Rec Levy

  • yes 52.92 %
  • no 47.08 %

San Juan County Regular Property Tax Levy Lid Lift

If approved, this proposition would authorize a levy lid lift resulting in a levy for collection in 2027 in the amount of $0.85 per $1,000 assessed value; the dollar amount levied for collection in 2027 would be used to compute the limitations of levies in subsequent years pursuant to Chapter 84.55 RCW

Lopez Park and Rec Levy

This proposition would impose a regular property tax levy of not more than 23 cents  per $1,000 of assessed valuation for six years beginning in 2027, subject to the limit factors in Chapter 84.55 RCW, for the purpose of funding Lopez Rec programs, services and operations, including but not limited to funding the Lopez School sports program and after-school and summer programming for youth.
