Joan M. Whiting April 4, 1944 – March 15th, 2026

Joan Molvig Whiting

Joan M. Whiting was born in Bismark, ND to Alvin and Doris Molvig on April 4th, 1944 and passed away March 15th, 2026 in Longmont, CO. She married the love of her life, Ralph S. Whiting, on October 9th, 1973.

Joan was the most caring, loving soul to everyone she encountered throughout life. She was always there to help—whether it was playing catch with her son because he wanted to be a pitcher in baseball, helping someone get back on their feet when their life was at rock bottom, or helping rebuild the Sequim Prairie Garden Club. She consistently put others before herself.

At the same time, she loved her family deeply and was always present—whether by phone or in person. She cared for her mother and brother at the end of their lives while still attending her grandchildren’s concerts, birthday parties, holidays, and other events. She believed in giving people not a handout, but a hand up.

Her love for friends and family was something she took great pride in, along with her passion for gardening. Her favorite plant was lavender. She loved her husband deeply, and now she is welcomed by him with open arms.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband Ralph S. Whiting; father Alvin Molvig; mother Doris Molvig; brother Steve Molvig; daughter Barbra Harvey; and son Lynn Whiting.

Joan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Linda Whiting; grandchildren Austin Whiting, Jason Whiting, and Melyssa Whiting; great-grandchildren Sarah Whiting, Asher Whiting, and Jason Whiting Jr.; granddaughter Sarah Harry and family; and sons Steve (Jennifer) Whiting, Larry (Linda) Whiting, Stan (Nita) Whiting, and James Whiting.

She will be truly missed by many beyond her family, but this is not goodbye—only until we meet again. We love you and know you are watching over us from above.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date this summer in Sequim, Washington.
