My name is Richard Roshon, writer/lecturer/author from the Historical town of Lahaina Maui, Hawaii of which I have lived and rented the same plantation cottage for the past 60 years, until the fire of 8 August, 2023.
With 80 mile an hour winds approaching my traditional plantation cottage I made it out my driveway with my home safe, medical records, lap top and wearing t-shirt, shorts and slippers, leaving behind a huge portion of my SOUL.
After the FBI took me from the missing persons list they contacted my sister in Pennsburg, PA, in which she contacted me and said “Come Home”.
One and a half years later, it was suggested that I should return to my home of Maui, knowing all the time and in keeping in touch with survivors (friends) of the fire that Maui is GONE, and I would be going backwards in my life. However at the end of Feb 2025 and 79 years old, I did return, shipped my truck and for the first several weeks I lived from my truck, as there is no place to live.
Being back on Maui for some reason I feel like a stranger in a strange land, and I feel like I have gone backwards in coming back. Maui is GONE and I long for new energy, open space, friends and quiet. My main pastime is spent reading and writing, and lecturing about my life with the sea. As my own marketer/agent I have shared my lecture presentations to Universities, colleges, the Whale Museum in Friday Harbor and many other places. Focusing on my Life with the sea and primarily with N. Pacific Humpback whales.
A few of my friends that are on Maui mention that the fire affected everyone on all sides of the island, you can feel it and see it. The Smiles, Aloha is just not what it used to be as Lahaina was not only a historical town, but the foundation of MAUI.
I am in search of my so-called “Walden Pond” a quiet, peaceful environment, surrounded by nature and the sea within the San Juan Islands. My monthly income is solely from my Social Security and my VA pension which is $814.00, VA pension $599.00.
My website will introduce you to “Who I am.”
I am available for personal interviews. I have many, many references to add to my responsibility, not only from here on Maui, but Seattle, Calif. Canada, etc.
The San Juan Islands would be a good change, new friends, environment and some much needed energy.
If interested, please contact me.
