Hi, my name is Saskia. For my senior project, I am refurbishing Keaton’s Basketball Court. I have played basketball there almost every day for the past 4 years. My mission with this project is to preserve Keaton’s Court for future generations. This will involve adding concrete, repainting the lines, building a basketball storage shed, supplying basketballs, replacing the nets, washing the backboards, getting a trash can at the court, and creating a fund to keep supplying basketballs, nets, etc. in the future.
The other part of this project is to uphold Keaton’s legacy and make more people aware of his story, which will never be forgotten. Keaton Farris was born and raised on Lopez Island and spent lots of time shooting hoops at the court in town. He was a student-athlete who participated and excelled in football, basketball, and track, competing at the state level.
On April 7th, 2015, Keaton died of dehydration in Island County Jail in Coupeville, WA. He was 25 years old. His death was due to extreme failure by Island County Jail to provide adequate care and attention to Keaton.
