Matthew Douglas Chorba was born on December 14, 1971, in Everett, WA, to Lou Chorba and M. Diane King. He spent his younger years in Snohomish County, then lived most of his life in Friday Harbor, WA. He passed away on May 22, 2025 in Bellingham WA.
Matt leaves behind two daughters, Kristina Cordray (34) of Oak Harbor, WA, and Kelcee Mower (30) of Tumwater, WA. He is also survived by mother, and his siblings Michelle, Annie, Laura, Teresa, and Michele. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers Greg and Blaine. Matt also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and beloved friends who will carry his memory forward.
Matt enjoyed music, video games, spending time outdoors, and sharing laughs with those closest to him. He especially loved hanging out with friends and was known for his easy going nature and sense of humor. A talented roofer and skilled craftsman, Matt spent his career building and creating throughout the San Juan Islands. His dedication and hard work left a lasting mark on the community he loved, with his craftsmanship living on in the homes and projects he touched.
One of Matt’s final gifts was the honor of being an organ donor. In his last moments, he was surrounded by family and loved ones and given an honorary memorial walk before his procedure. He left this earth without pain or suffering, finally finding the peace he had always been searching for.
Matt will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the lives he touched and in the legacy of love, laughter, music, and craftsmanship he leaves behind.
His daughters are hosting a celebration of life on Saturday October 11 from 1 to 3 PM at the San Juan Island Grange. Please RSVP via email and feel free to include any memories, photos or well wishes for the family to: 1971matthewchorba2025@gmail.com.
