EMS might be given OK to treat some injured animals

If legislation currently under consideration in the Washington State Legislature passes, Emergency Medical Services will be authorized to provide certain emergency medical services to animals.

The SB 1508  covers situations when EMS is in an emergency medical or fire response or response to aid law enforcement. The services would be provided to the animal before or during transfer for further treatment by a licensed veterinarian.

It would be great to have statutes to provide for such care. In my 40 years in the fire service I’ve treated so many dogs and cats I couldn’t possibly remember!

Whether we are successful or not in a resuscitation; the hope and comfort it provides their owners in lifesaving in itself.

Gandhi said you can tell a lot about a society by how it treats the animals.
