PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center is advising patients concerned that they may have COVID-19 to call PIMC before arriving if they meet both of the following conditions:
1. Have recently traveled outside the United States or have been in contact with a person known to have COVID-19.
2. Have symptoms including fever or upper respiratory infection symptoms (i.e. cough)
After the PIMC staff assess the patient's symptoms and exposure history, they will contact San Juan County Health Department to determine if testing is needed. Testing is only being done through the PIMC Emergency Department.
If testing is determined not to be necessary, PIMC staff will give the patient further instructions.
Dr. House at Eventide is recommending:
If you have a respiratory illness (cough and/or shortness of breath) with fever (medically a fever starts at 38 degrees C/100.4 degrees F) please call the clinic.
Let them know if you've had recent travel or contact with another sick individual.
If you meet this criteria DO NOT come to the clinic without calling first. In some cases you will be advised to present to the ER at PIMC. In other cases Eventide may send a team to your home to collect samples for testing.
Meanwhile, avoid close contact with those who are sick (but be kind; they're sick, let's not make them feel wors e). Practice good hand hygiene and avoid touching your face. Clean and disinfect surfaces you touch regularly. Cover your cough if you have one. Stay home if you're ill. Have a few weeks of food on hand in case a quarantine happens. Don't panic and don't argue; you'll just cause stress for yourself and others.
