San Juan Island School District Superintendent Dr. Danna Diaz has been selected from a group of 33 applicants from 17 different states to be the next superintendent of Reynolds School District in Fairview, Oregon.
The board narrowed that selection to four who were invited to interviews with the board, union groups, parent groups, students and community members. After deliberating for six hours on Saturday, April 14, 2018, the Reynolds School Board chose Diaz as the district's next superintendent.
“We are thrilled the various stakeholder groups were able to offer us valuable input during the process of choosing the finalist for the Superintendent position,” said Reynolds School Board Chair Joe Teeny. “With the qualifications and skills Dr. Diaz will be bringing to our district along with the positive connection and feedback she received from the stakeholder groups, we are confident in her ability to lead our district for years to come.”
Diaz has been SJISD's superintendent since July 1, 2015. She was the Assistant Superintendent for the El Paso Independent School District in Texas before moving to the San Juan Islands. She has also served as Director of Student Engagement for Fort Worth Independent School District and as Regional Superintendent for the School District of Philadelphia.
She began her career as a bilingual teacher in 1987. She has twice been recognized as “Teacher of the Year” for her work. She also served as an elementary principal, education specialist and resource coordinator. She received her PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Texas.
Reynolds School District has 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools.
