Happy smiling people hanging about in the Town of Friday Harbor

The flower baskets  are up in Friday Harbor which is always a good sign. And this year there is also a surprise on more than two dozen light poles.

There are 25 banners with four students' portraits on each. They include 19 banners for Friday Harbor High School Class of 2020, five for Spring Street International graduates, and one for Griffin Bay. Congratulations to all.

This is two photos of the same banner, one taken looking up Spring Street toward the drugstore and the other turned the other way. Sharon Kivisto photos

There are a dozen seniors in this photo, six you can see and another six on the flip side.

Town of Friday Harbor Administrator Duncan Wilson was contacted by Brea Mason who had a group of parents working with her. The Town provided technical information on the size and construction of the banners and was responsible to put them up and take them down. Printonyx coordinated the printing and gave the students a great price.

“The Mayor and Council were very happy to play a small part in this. It was a fantastic way to honor the seniors,” Wilson said.

The banners share many of the poles with the beautiful hanging baskets. As always, the  San Juan Island Garden Club contributed $500 to the colorful project.
