Oct. 29: 5th SRKW Community Action – Look Forward workshop

The CALF Planning Committee invites the public to attend the fifth Southern Resident Orca CALF (Community Action – Look Forward) workshop from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sunday October 29  at the San Juan Island Grange. This workshop is the fifth in a series of ongoing community events featuring topics and discussion about how individuals can be involved in recovery efforts for Southern Resident orcas and Chinook salmon.

Guest speakers include Robert Crabtree, founder of the Yellowstone Ecological Research Center, who will discuss how to apply lessons learned from the Yellowstone ecosystem to Salish Sea recovery efforts; and Mike Sutton, Chair of COMPASS Science Communication, Inc. and Ocean Champions, with a conversation about the complex issues involving the Pacific Salmon Treaty, federal law and state management.

The workshop will continue with break-out sessions and facilitated discussion on how we as a community can become more involved in orca and salmon recovery efforts. Registration is by donation and all are welcome to attend. Lunch can be pre-ordered or you can bring your own. Attendees of the Marine Resources Committee Southern Resident Killer Whale Protection Workshop on Friday, October 27, 2017 are encouraged to attend CALF V on Sunday October 29 and continue the community conversation.

Questions about this workshop can be directed to Dr. Deborah Giles at giles7@uw.edu or 916 531-1516. We look forward to seeing you there!
