Half a million people expected to take a ferry this holiday weekend Featured

Expect a busy holiday weekend if your plans take you on a ferry. Almost 500,000 people are projected to ride a state ferry from today through Tuesday, May 28 for Memorial Day weekend.

Passengers driving aboard should prepare for lengthy waits and should consider walking or biking aboard, if possible. Travel around Colman Dock in Seattle will be particularly busy due to several nearby construction projects. The heaviest traffic has historically been seen on westbound sailings and destinations in the San Juan Islands on Friday, while Eastbound and off-island sailings see the bulk of the traffic on Monday.

Passengers are encouraged to check terminal conditions before leaving home and following WSF's Twitter Account for automatic updates on travel conditions. People using state highways to get to the ferry terminal should plan ahead for potential backups and delays with real-time traffic information on the WSDOT traffic app for their mobile device.
