SJ EMS and Island Air win national award

San Juan Island EMS and MedEvac/Island Air Ambulance won the 2013 Fixed Wing Award of Excellence awarded by the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS. San Juan Island EMS Chief and other EMS employees attended the national conference October 21 in Virginia Beach, Virginia where they were presented with the award.

The Fixed Wing Award of Excellence is a competitive industry leadership voted recognition of an individual/team that has made significant contributions to enhance the development or promote the improvement of patient care and/or safety, specifically in the fixed wing component of the air medical transport community.

The award is sponsored by LifePort, Inc, A Sikorsky Aerospace Services Company.

Island Air provides basic air transport at no cost for islanders who live in the hospital district. The patient's insurance is billed and the district covers the rest of the cost.


Outage over

CenturyLink crews restored services, including all voice and high-speed Internet, to the San Juan Islands Friday morning, November 15. Crews worked overnight in the rain to connect the new fiber that was laid yesterday.


More capacity for DSL customers, cell service problems fixed (11/13)

All Rock Island DSL traffic is now routed away from CenturyLink infrastructure to Rock Islands. Rock Island owner Mike Green said, This relieves the Opalco link of about 100Mb of transport, which should help ease some congestion for the rest of the DSL subscribers on San Juan Island.

The problems affecting local cell phone service have been fixed by CenturyLink. At the November 12 forum in Friday Harbor. The CenturyLink representatives were informed of problems with cell service.
