Online candidate filing and in-person begins May 16

San Juan County Elections Office will accept online candidate filings from 9 am on Monday, May 16, through 4 pm on Friday, May 20, 2016. In-person filings will be accepted from 8 am on Monday, May 16, through 4:30 pm on Friday, May 20, 2016. Mail-in filings will be accepted no earlier than Monday, May 2 and will be processed on May 16, 2016.

There are advantages for candidates who file online. In addition to receiving confirmation of their filing, they also get updates when other candidates file for that office. Candidates can file either from their personal computers or from a computer set up in the Elections Office.

To file online, go to the County Elections webpage  “Online Candidate Filing.” A handbook of information for all candidates is also available at the Elections webpage. Persons interested in running for office are encouraged to call the Elections Offices at (360) 378-3357 for more information.

The following offices are open for this election season. Candidates filing for Federal or State offices will file with the Secretary of State.

Washington State Offices:

Washington State Governor - Partisan 4 year term - $1718.98 filing fee

Washington State Lt. Governor - Partisan 4 year term - $1008.80 filing fee

Secretary of State - Partisan 4 year term - $1204.59 filing fee

State Treasurer - Partisan 4 year term - $1337.50 filing fee

State Auditor - Partisan 4 year term - $1204.59 filing fee

Attorney General – Partisan 4 year term - $1562.70 filing fee

Commissioner of Public Lands - Partisan 4 year term - $1302.53 filing fee

Superintendent of Public Instruction - Nonpartisan 4 year term - $1328.83 filing fee

Insurance Commissioner - Partisan 4 year term - $1328.83 Filing fee

Insurance Commissioner - Partisan 4 year term - $1216.28 filing fee

State Senator - Partisan 4 year term - $454.74 filing fee

State Representative Pos. 1 - Partisan 2 year term - $454.74 filing fee
