League of Women Voters to hold primary forums for state, national candidates

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans is holding candidate forums prior to the August primary election. The forums feature those running for the Washington state legislative district 40 and congressional district 2 positions. Each race has six candidates.

Kristine Lytton chose not to run for re-election after serving for ten years and accomplishing the goals she had set. Those running to replace her in state legislative district 40 are:

Rud Browne (Democrat from Bellingham)

Debra Lekanoff (Democrat from Bow)

Daniel Miller (Republican from Friday Harbor)

Tom Pasma (Democrat from Burlington). 

Michael Petrish (Republican from Anacortes)

Alex Ramel (Democrat from Bellingham) 

Candidates for Representative for Congressional District 2 are:

Stonewall Jackson Bird (Green Party from Bellingham)

Collin Richard Carlson (Democrat from Marysville)

Gary Franco (Independent from Lopez Island)

Rick Larsen (Democrat and incumbent from Everett);

Brian Luke (Libertarian from Lynnwood)

Uncle Mover (Moderate GOP Party from Mill Creek)

The public is encouraged to attend and submit questions for the candidates. Times and locations are:

Orcas Island: from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 11 at  Eastsound Fire Hall, 45 Lavender Ln., Eastsound.

San Juan Island:  from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, July 12 at the San Juan Island Grange, 152 First Street, Friday Harbor.

Lopez Island: from 4 to 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 18 at  Lopez Grace Episcopal Church, 70 Sunset Lane.
