More than 53 percent of ballots cast already in the San Juan Islands

As of Monday afternoon, November 5, 2018 7,090 ballots were being processed at the San Juan County Elections Office in Friday Harbor. This is 52.9 percent of the 13,339 ballots mailed to voters. Another 500 ballots were in the building waiting to begin processing.

The ballot box in Friday Harbor was emptied Monday morning. The one on Orcas Island was last emptied Saturday, November 3. Both the Orcas and Lopez Island ballot boxes will be emptied Monday night and at 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

County Elections staff said the number of ballots being mailed in was higher than ever and attributed it in part to the fact the state paid for the postage.
