San Juan Community Theatre asking to use Lodging tax money for building repairs

San Juan Community Theatre Executive Artistic Director Nathan Kessler-Jeffrey will attend the San Juan County Council's March 19 regular meeting to ask if the theatre can use lodging tax funds it received from the county for urgent repairs.

After 30 years in the building, the theatre is undergoing an inspection in order to compile a list to use to prioritize future repairs and improvements. The inspection revealed there are several issues with the  crawlspace under the north end of the building that need to be addressed immediately, according to Kessler-Jeffrey.

The problems include the pony wall which supports the structure above and water damage around the toilet in the men's dressing room. Kessler-Jeffrey wrote in a letter to the council, "While the dressing room remains safe to use, the toilet does not, and we hope to address this rapidly, as we are about to start our spring musical production of The Drowsy Chaperone, which is the largest show of our season.
