A kayaker reported seeing a dead man on the beach in the 3500 block of Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez Island early Thursday afternoon, August 25, 2016. When deputies responded they found another deceased man.
According to San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs the causes of death were gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported hearing two apparent gun shots the night before at approximately 8:30 pm.
A suicide note was found that stated both of the men had visited Lopez Island years ago with their dog and loved the island.
At this time the Sheriff’s Office is ruling this a murder-suicide. An autopsy will be conducted by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office.
The identities are being withheld pending the notification of their dependents.

I was working on the Whiskey Hill dock on the evening of the 24th when I heard two what sounded like two gun shots about 100 yards away on the shore, one very loud and a second about one minute later which was muffled. I didn't think too much of it as one occasionally hears gun fire on the island. It was very sad and disconcerting to find out later what happened.Report
