Kathryn Trinity Root, 21, of Friday Harbor was arraigned in San Juan County Superior Court on March 2 on one count of Tampering with a Witness and one count of Furnishing Liquor to a Minor. She pleaded not guilty.
According to court documents, Root purchased vodka and provided it to a 16-year-old girl. The girl was taken to the emergency department at Peace Island Medical Center after she returned home extremely intoxicated. Her BAC was .086. On September 17, 2017 was given conditions of release from court that included prohibited here from consuming alcohol. The conditions are in effect for five years. On the day after the girl was treated at PIMC, Root was contacted and asked to take a breath test. She tested .001 and according to court documents admitted she had consumed a Mike's Hard lemonade the previous night. She denied providing the girl with alcohol. When deputies spoke with the girl again, she said Root had contacted her and told her to change her story. Trial is set for May 7, 2017.
