Black bear now on San Juan Island

The black bear that has been exploring Orcas Island for the past several days has been spotted on San Juan Island on Saturday, May 18, 2019.  He was seen in the Hillview Terrace area on the east side of the island.

Janice Williams shared this photo of the bear on Orcas Island. 

According to San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs, the bear doesn’t appear to be aggressive but is interested in bird feeders and garbage cans. The Department of Fish and Wildlife has been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office asks that if you see the bear to please contact contact them at 360-378-4151.

    This bear needs to take the ferry to Ssn Juan Island. As an expert on black bears I can guarantee he would thrive in that ecosystem.
